August 9th 2008

As I started to wake up this morning, I thought today was going to be good weather wise. The sun was brightly shinning and I felt as if I had a good night sleep. When my alarm went off at nine, I got up and went downstairs for breakfast. I had my usual piece of bread and two glasses of water. At breakfast Adelina told me about what she had done for me for lunch and that the family would not be back until much later today. After breakfast I came back up to my room to lie in bed and enjoy peace and quiet. As I lie in bed, I thought about things that I need to do and rehearsed saying good-bye for later today and this evening. When I decided to get up again, I did my morning devotion and got my gifts to write some messages on them. After writing a to-do list and messages on my gifts, it was time for lunch. I began to get ready for my day and then had lunch. For lunch I had chicken with rice, lettuce, tomatoes, broccoli, and a potato. At lunch, Susana informed me that Quique had to spend the night in the hospital because his asthma was acting up. After lunch, I finished getting ready for my day. As I was finishing, Quique told me that there was a lot of water downstairs, but said I could continue to use the sink. Before leaving early for youth group, I had some time so I used the internet. I then left for youth group and easily caught the two truffis I needed to, to get there. As usual I arrived early, so early that nobody was at the house. So I waited for awhile for them to arrive home. When they arrived home, I was greeted by them and then went into the house. They did not have lunch yet so I let them eat lunch and I went into another room and thought more about what I wanted to say. While thinking, Paula came in to tell me that they were starting a dance ministry tonight and asked me how I felt about leaving. Since, nobody else seemed to be showing up for youth group, I decided to think, work, and write out my devotional I will be leading on a retreat when I return to the United States. After finishing it, I went upstairs to see what the other people in the house were doing. We ended up watch a Kung-Fu movie and I just sat there and enjoyed my time with the people from the youth group. Another movie we watched was As Good as it Gets and I enjoyed talking with them and being with them during this movie as well. Since there was no official youth group, I did not get to say good-bye to everyone as I had planned. It was then time to leave to go to church. I went downstairs and waited by the car until everyone was ready. On the way to church, the youth teased me about if I had found a girl to take with me back to the States. When I got to the church I got ready for the service by tuning my guitar. Before the service, I talked with Deacon Tammy and Larry about getting pictures with them. Also, I talked with Larry a little bit about staying home tomorrow during the election and my night so far. We then had the service and it felt great to play the music and be able to say all the parts of the service. There was a special time of prayer during tonight’s service and I had Padre Walter and Omar in my group. Padre Walter wanted to pray for me and my time here and Omar also prayed for me. Then we prayed that God would have His hand on the election tomorrow and that there would be peace. Before the service was over there was the first presentation which I think was and is good for the church to have. At the end of the service, Padre Walter called me up front to pray for me and had some people from the congregation come around me to lay hands on me. It was a very touching prayer and it made feel that even though I struggled at some point that God wanted me to be here. After the service, I was able to get all the pictures I had requested. After my picture with Deacon Tammy and Padre Walter, I talked with Deacon Tammy about going to the same seminary she did and possibly getting together when she comes back to the States next year. Also, I went around to the youth that were there to thank them and give them my present. It was hard for me, emotionally to say good-bye because all the youth said that it was no problem and that they were happy to have me here and they were upset that I am leaving soon. I did not have a problem speaking Spanish with all the youth to thank them and say good-bye to them. As I went around saying good-bye, Larry and I figured out how I was going to get home so I took a taxi with him to his apartment. I made sure to say good-bye to all the people that I have built relationships with and all of them mentioned the fact that they would like to keep in touch. Before leaving, plans for the youth and I to get together again were attempted to be made, but nothing clear was made. The plan as of now is to do something Wednesday evening, I am guessing after worship practice. I made plans to meet with Juan this week and also my friend Marcelo said he wanted to get together with me this week. After taking a taxi back to Larry’s apartment, I waited with some of Larry and Betty’s friends. While waiting, I talked with Larry about technology and what time we are leaving to go to the airport. Then the friends of Larry and Betty gave me a ride home. On the way to my house I was able to have a good conversation with them about learning Spanish, my time in Cocabamba, and other topics. They told me that they thought my Spanish was very good and even said that my pronunciation was good as well. As soon as I returned to the house, I got ready for bed, said some night time prayers, and went to bed.
