My morning began at eight because I could not longer sleep and the sun was brightly shinning in my face. I then went downstairs to have breakfast which was the usual two pieces of bread, two cups of water, and a cup of tea. During breakfast, Adelina showed me that there is a new kitten in the family now. After breakfast, I did my morning devotion and then tried to go back to bed. Since going to back to bed did not work, I decide to do some reflecting and relaxing. While relaxing I realized, I failed two mention two pieces of information that I received on Sunday. One is that this past Sunday was the first Sunday that a drum machine was used during the service. Also, when being with Shawnee yesterday, I noticed that Shawnee’s affection with the guys that live with her is funny and brings a new meaning of what it means to live in community. Next, I decided to get out of bed and get ready for the day and my second week of language classes. I arrived at language school earlier which truly shows how American I am. My first class with Maite, I reviewed what I learned last week along with talked about what I did this past weekend. During my class with Maite, she told me that the dish that I had on Sunday with peppers, onions, tomatoes, potatoes, and hot dogs, and beef was called piche macho. Then I had a class with Susana in which we talked about Luigi graduating next weekend and what can she do for him since she does not have a lot of time or money to plan something since Lucas’ surgery is on Thursday. Also, we talked about how I am adjusting to being in Cochabamba and I was honest and said that it has been rough because I not want to go out and explore things on my own. She then told me that I am in a weird situation because usually when students attend language school; they make friends with other white people and then they do things together. Currently, there are not a lot of young students for me to connect with because one lives to far away and the other one is going back home in a week. Susana then allowed me to explain my situation in English so that she could understand it. I, then, was given advice by Susana and she showed concern and willingness to help towards me. After my class with Susana, there was a break in which I talked with Mauge about my weekend and how things are going for me in Cochabamba. During our discussion, Mauge was very encouraging and said that she thought that I had a gift for the language and the information I need to speak it; it is just a matter of time before the two connect. Mauge also gave me a copy of lesson plan that has been created for me and she said that my progress is good because I am little over half-way done of our goals for me to achieve. When the break was over, I had a class with Viviana in which I started to work on reflexive verbs and how to properly use them. In my final class, I again had Maite in which we continued to go over the proper use of reflective verbs. As soon as I returned home from the language school I relaxed because this is the first day that I feel like my brain has been challenged in my classes. Before dinner, I did my evening devotion and felt my headache from either my classes or the altitude be relieved. I was even able to type up my notes from today’s classes before dinner as well. For dinner, I had beef with pasta and a potato. During dinner, Shawnee stopped by to explain the cell phone situation to me. There is no chip in my cell phone so I can not use it her. However, she took back the original cell phone and gave me another one that will be mine for the duration of my stay in Cochabamba. I had to have Luigi program it because it was all in Spanish, but then I was able to convert the system to English so I could understand it. After dinner, I had a good conversation that was mostly in Spanish with Susana about life experiences that are difficult, but need to be experienced. When the conversation was over, Lucas started talking to me about the police and accidents as he was playing with his police car. After I said that there was many accidents, Lucas gave me a hug and then repeated what I said. When I asked him why there were many accidents, he just laughed and ran away with joy. This evening was both good for me as well as Susana because she was able to talk about things and I was able to help her. I think that a skill God gave me is being a good listener and I think that this is me vocation for right now. The night was also good for me because I was able to feel like I had a normal conversation in Spanish as I would if I were having an English conversation back in the United States. Next, I studied my Spanish with reflective verbs and the proper way to pronounce them. With all of the activities that occurred today, I felt exhausted and decided to turn in early. So I did my night time devotion, showered, and went to bed.
